We know what subtitles are, and we love to watch videos with subtitles (most of us, some people find this irritating). If you are watching the “Bleach” anime series, you will see an example of a hard subbed video.

A hard subtitle is a subtitle that is combined with the video itself. To remove the subtitle, you need to do video editing. Since it is with the video, It is also included in the animation. Therefore, It seems impossible for an ordinary user to separate a hard subtitle from a video. The subtitle stream is one with the video frames and text will not be editable.

What if you want to add a subtitle for your favorite series? Let’s take Heroes as an example.

Soft subtitles comes in handy. A soft subtitle is a separate subtitle file that can be incorporated with any video. A subtitle file has these extensions: sub, srt. To use the subtitle file, simply change its name to that of your video leaving its extension unchanged.

ex.

MyVideoFile.avi
MyVideoFile.sub

Where could you get subtitles? You could get some subtitles from google, but it is best to search subscene.com. These subtitles could be edited using the subtitle studio. You could change wrong spellings and other character case issue.

NOTE: your video and subtitle file should be placed in 1 directory.
