The Meralco Foundation Institute is another college that is unknown to Filipino masses. It is located at Ortigas Ave. Extension Pasig City beside the new Medical City Hospital. It was founded November 6, 1973. This school came to my attention when my sister told me of a friend’s friend studying at Meralco. Meralco is known as the largest electricity distributor here in the Philippines and that’s actually what all people know. I was a bit shocked that Meralco owns an institute. They offer technical and agricultural courses especially for the less privileged. I could describe MFI as a low-profile school offering high-class courses. I am not from MFI and I am not endorsing it. It’s just that courses offered at this school looks promising and It was already MFI when I was still void.
I am a computer science student at Far Eastern University - East Asia College. But, I admit that MFI beats EAC when it comes to the courses offered. These are just some of the courses offered at MFI under Information Technology:Digital Imaging with Adobe Photoshop, Enhanced Web Page Designing in HTML and Javascript, Fundamentals of VoIP & Securing and Maintaining VoIP Networks, Network Technology, Object-Oriented Programming in C++, Office 2000, PHP and MySQL Basics, Program Logic Formulation, Programming in C++, SAP Business One ICC, SAP Business One Logistics and Financials, Structure Programming in C++, Administering Windows 2003 Network Infrastructure, Administering Windows 2003 Networks, CCNA Exploration - Accessing the WAN, CCNA Exploration - LAN Switching and Wireless, CCNA Exploration - Networking Fundamentals, CCNA Exploration - Routing Protocols and Concepts, and Fundamentals of Network Security: Router. They also offer specialized courses, the full list can be found here.
You’ll definitely learn all this things in the span of 2 years getting away with your minor subjects like values education and the likes. MFI has a high-profile when it comes to industry. You could get jobs easily when you are an MFI graduate according to Adolf Gumera. Gumera graduated last October 2007 at MFI and is now working at J.Ray Mcdermott, Dubai, U.A.E as a technician of an automatic welding system having 100 dollars starting salary. This is a link to his profile on friendster.
According to the students of MFI, most of them are scholars of the Institute. I don’t have much details about the inside system of the school. But, looking at their small website, I realized that this school should be known to people. They offer high-quality education and is operating for almost 35 years. They also offer agricultural course and industrial courses.
